
?Roos to Take Part in the Iowa State Classic Over the Weekend

This meet is a national qualifying competition for the NCAA Indoor Championships, which will occur on March 9-10 in Boise, Idaho.
Last Time Out for UMKC...
It competed in the Varsity Apartments Invitational in Wichita, Kan. on Feb. 3-4. At the end, the men finished fifth (38 points) and the women placed seventh (21 points).
Notable performances for the Blue & Gold included junior Ramon Nelson winning the weight throw in day one with a personal best mark of 58-01.25 (17.71). This output by Nelson was the third best performance in UMKC indoor track and field history.
In day two, the Jamaica native placed third in the shot put with a mark of 52-01.75 (15.89). This performance by Nelson was not only the second best in school indoor history, but he now holds three of the top-five best performances on this list.
In the women's weight throw, the 'Roos had two female athletes place in the top 10 as senior's Denise Banda finished third with a mark of 54-01.00 (16.48) and Kimoya Harriott placed sixth with a mark of 51-01.00 (15.57).
Also, Stephany Johnson placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 39-01.75 (11.93). This performance by Johnson was the third best in school indoor history.
In the 3,000 meters, senior Jylian Jaloma placed sixth with a personal best time of 10:07.40. This performance by the Atchison, Kan. native was the third best performance in school indoor history.
Not the First Time at Iowa State This Season
In its second meet of the season, the Kangaroos traveled to Iowa State to participate in the Holiday Preview (12/9).
Leading the way for UMKC was senior Redell Frazier placing second in the 600-yard run with school best time of 1:12.29.
In the triple jump, senior DC Okonta finished first with a mark of 48-04.00 (14.73).
On the women's side in the 60-meter dash, sophomore Michelle Momo finished third in the preliminary round with a personal best time of 7.77. Then in the finals, she placed fourth with a time of 7.79.
In the 4x300-meter relay, UMKC had two groups place in the top three as Group A (Autumn Scott, Sa'Kia Taylor, Briana Carter, and Veronica Rollins) finished second with a time of 2:43.68 and Group B (Danielle Olive, Viola Kleiser, Momo, and Chelsea Richardson) crossed the finish line in third at 2:47.20.
Nelson Keeps On Pushing
Last week's performances at the Varsity Apartments Invitational in the weight throw and shot put only added to an already stellar junior campaign by Nelson as he has finished in the top five in each meet this season.
His best performance in the weight throw came at the KSU Invitational (1/14) when he placed second with a mark of 57-08.25 (17.58). This performance by Nelson was the fifth best in school indoor history.
In the shot put, his best outing came at the Bill Easton Classic (1/7) when he placed third with a mark of 51-03.00 (15.62). This performance by the Jamaica native was the third best in school indoor history.
Frerichs to Compete in the USATF Junior National Cross Championships
Freshman Courtney Frerichs will be traveling to St. Louis to compete in the USATF Junior National Cross Country Championships this Saturday as well.The Nixa, Mo. native will compete in a 6K race against some of the best collegiate freshmen and high school distance runners in the country at the Forest Park course beginning at 11:45 a.m.
The top six finishers will qualify to represent the United States in the North America, Central American, & Caribbean (NACAC) Cross Country Championships on March 17 held in the Port of Spain, Trinidad.
